The sports massage was developed for athletes who need to keep their bodies in great condition and quickly work out any stress or injuries. Sports massage is utilized to prepare athletes for competition, support their bodies during, or help with recovery after an event. Sports massage is good for anyone with chronic pain, injury or range-of-motion issues. The therapist generally concentrates on a specific problem area which may be related to sports, like golf or tennis.
A neuromuscular massage is an intense form of bodywork that consists of focused, concentrated massage on one or two specific area of the body. It works with “trigger points” and pain referral patterns for relief from chronic muscular pain. This is strictly a rehabilitative form of massage and is NOT a full body massage.
The Swedish massage is a full body massage where smooth, gliding strokes called effleurage are utilized to stimulate circulation and reduce stress. Other strokes utilized include kneading, friction, stretching and (sometimes) tapping. The benefits of Swedish massage range from relief of general muscle tension, stress reduction, increased range of motion to preventative maintenance for active people to reduce the risk of injury.
A prenatal massage is a special type of massage which is designed to accommodate the unique needs of pregnant women. There are a number of reasons for women to pursue prenatal massage, ranging from a desire to reduce the physical strain associated with pregnancy to a chance to indulge in some pampering before giving birth. Pre-natal massage is especially beneficial in the second and third trimesters, when the extra weight in your abdomen puts additional strain on your low back. Pre-Natal massage cannot be performed in the 1st trimester of a pregnancy.
Myofascial release (deep tissue massage) is a style of massage that works on the restricted or stuck areas. A connective tissue that runs throughout your body called “fascia” can develop adhesions or “stuck” areas as a result of severe stress, trauma, repetitive motion or after surgery. Practitioners use forearms, knuckles or splinted fingers as well as other tools to slowly stretch the restricted fascia by elongation or by mobilizing adhesive tissues. The practitioner moves slowly through the layers of the fascia until the deep tissues are reached.
Aromatherapy is an application of soothing oils formulated with natural plant and flower extracts. Each client will be consulted when choosing the most suitable aromatherapy blend for their needs.
